For decades, women in law enforcement have sometimes been portrayed as weak individuals, or viewed as unable to perform on the same level, physically and mentally, as male officers. Very few female officers have the ability to perform the same physical ability as their male counterparts. On the contrary, women do excel in other abilities and tactics that men rarely perform on a high level. In Dr. Kim Lonsway (2003) article "Hiring and Retaining More Women: The Advantages to Law Enforcement Agencies" she describes these abilities that female officers bring to all law enforcement agencies throughout the world.
Women have come along way in local, state, and federal law enforement agencies, and in 2013 they are continuing their climb into all positions, and bringing with them these key abilities and tactics.
